So it’s time to make some updates to your dated bathroom but you don’t want to spend a small fortune,  fear not! We’ve put together this update guide to help give your bathroom a new lease of life for little cost.  Before taking on any re-design project I like to plan strategically; pick a theme and color scheme, but don’t be afraid to mix textures and patterns.  Depending on your budget, you can choose to splurge on higher end pieces or pick up inexpensive ones which I find to be just as good!

UPDATE YOUR SHOWER CURTAIN

Something as simple and inexpensive as replacing your shower curtain can completely change your bathroom and create a great focal point. You can purchase shower curtains for between $12-15 from most home stores, and considering the visual difference it can make, it’s certainly worth the small investment.  Vibrant, patterned shower curtains can really make the overall look of your bathroom more aesthetically pleasing.

WALL DECALS

I’m a huge fan of wall decals, they’re perfect for bedrooms, living rooms, hallways and bathrooms.  You can purchase wall decals for as little as $10.  There are so many options out there, you can even choose to match your decal theme with your shower curtain and other soft furnishings.  If you don’t want the hassle of completely re-painting your bathroom, go for decals instead.  They’re stylish and you can choose something to reflect your interior style and personality.

RE-PAINT BATHROOM CABINETS

Cabinets in need of a revamp?  You can update your old bathroom cabinets for next to nothing, in fact it’s practically free.  Most home improvement stores will give you paint samples upon request.  You can choose to do a complete paint job, or paint panels to give depth and character.  I’m a huge fan of the distressed look, you can achieve this by following this technique.

UPDATE YOUR CABINET FIXTURES

For a small investment, you can pick up new cabinet fixtures for little cost.  Choose from basic fixtures and door knobs or delve into the world of weird and wacky ones which I love. Pick something that goes with the overall theme of the room, with so many unusual fixtures on the market, you can be as quirky as you like.

NEW COUNTER TOP ACCESSORIES

Choose to de-clutter your counter space and make way for some new count top accessories such as a soap dish, toothbrush holder, lotion dispensers. Never underestimate the power of a de-clutter.  It can immediately give your space a minimalist, and chic look.  Using mason jars as storage receptacles are set to remain on trend, these are great for storing cotton balls or cue tips.

SWITCH OUT YOUR BATHROOM MIRROR

It’s so easy to create a feeling of space with mirrors.  Simply hang them cleverly and your room will look much bigger, brighter and more inviting.  For example, hanging generously sized mirrors opposite each other creates endless reflections, making small and often windowless rooms seem larger, lighter and more appealing.  Choosing to replace your bathroom sink mirror for something funky can make quite the statement and really uplift the room.  Another inexpensive update!

WICKER BASKETS OR STORAGE BINS

If there’s one thing most bathrooms lack, it’s storage space. Purchase wicker baskets or patterned storage bins and attach them to your bathroom wall for extra storage.  Here you can store rolled up towels, or toiletries.  This is great for saving on counter space and adds a cool feature to your wall, especially if you choose to use different patterns or textures.  This is one of my favorite ideas, and I really like the stylish finish.

BATHROOM CANDLES & PLANTS

Give your bathroom the ultimate spa treatment!  Select various sized candles to make your newly updated bathroom extra relaxing.  Candles not only make the space smell delicious, but create the perfect ambiance!  Candlelight flatters every room; mix large and small pillars with Votives and Tea lights but be sure to choose a single scent to prevent an over powering clash.  Also, adding a couple of small indoor plants can be a great way to create a relaxing and stylish space; orchids are fantastic, you can pick them up for around $20 and they last for a long time!

We hope you’ve enjoyed some of our bathroom re-do ideas!  By implementing small, inexpensive bathroom updates you can completely transform your space for less cost.  If you have any ideas you would like to share, we would love to hear all about it.   The best update idea will receive a Starbucks gift on us!
